After an absence of a week we were back in the fray. Game conditions dry with a cross wind towards the bar....
Sevenoaks came into the game having lost their first game (Hertford/away) and and a win last week (Westcombe Park/ home)
The first half saw a calmer approach from the side with both sides making inroads, the only try of the half for Sevenoaks came from a kick over the backs, because they could not go through them, and catch - 0-7. The game was on and heads stayed up... Josh Knight (fly-half) converted a penalty for not releasing - 3-7. The half ended with a late Sevenoaks penalty 3-10.
The second half did not go the way of the first. Sevenoaks came out with more focus and intensity, and we did not respond in kind. After 20 minutes we were down 3-29, undoing a lot of the work from the 1st half.
Our first response came after winning our shortened line out and the ball being received by Kyle Coulter (2nd row) in the line and breaking through their back line and making ground. With John Hargreaves (inside centre) receiving the ball and running passed a number of players to score an impressive try. Converted by Josh Knight - 10-29.
Sevenoaks came back at the Stags - 10-36. However the final play of the game with 10 seconds on the clock a fine break saw Dafydd Rees go into the corner. A high tackle was called and a penalty try given - 17-36.
Much to ponder....
