The wind was blowing fiercely when the Stags turned down a chance to kick a goal when deservedly leading 13-0 at the end of the first half. Whisper it , but the difference between being two or three scores ahead is huge and this was clearly likely to be a twenty plus point wind and declared by president Mike Lee to be such ! This was not the Stags' best and not their only scarcely believable call on the day, with the match being played in such a gale on the smaller middle pitch at Duke's Meadows because of the condition of number one. It was the sort of day when playing for the vets a few years back Martin Wallace would set himself for goal from his own ten metre line. TJs predictably came storming back and with this fiercest of winds behind them had soon overtaken their hosts and crucially extended their lead to nine. CS did what they could but were rarely now in their opponents' half. It was odd therefore when at the death they should have turned down the very good prospect, if any prospect on such a day could be said to be good - on just such a rare visit - of a kick which could at least have yielded a losing bonus point. A closish game but CS were - some might say - extraordinarily naive! Next week lowly but battling Thurrock are the visitors to Duke's Meadows. Away the Stags could only scrape a draw against them. Now that they are well and truly in the relegation mix themselves a win is essential! CS scorers : Try : Freddie Taylor Con: Ward Pens : Ward (2)
