Mandarins Put Through the Wringer as OEs Juice It Up.
CS Rugby 1863 19 Old Elthamians 49
Nick Alway reports
For the second week in a row the Stags found themselves at the end of a sizeable and unflattering score line. And for the second time this year I am unashamedly pinching OEs’ brilliant website headline. It says it all.
Whereas the week before league leaders Dorking had blown them away in the second half, this Saturday Old Elthamians had a sublime first period. Six of the Stags’ pack were starting a game for the first time this season, so deeply had injuries bitten and it was a tribute to the team’s defence that it took the opposition until the eighteenth minute to get on the board with a penalty and until the thirty-fifth to register their first try. Tackling was pretty well all the Stags were doing as what little ball they had was all too soon turned over but they were doing it well and this try and another late first half touch-down, both like the two earlier penalties inevitably converted with fine kicks, gave the score line a weight in OEs’ favour (0-20 ) that somewhat belied their efforts.
A further ten minutes of resistance followed before OEs cut loose but the Stags had some brighter moments at the death too and of the seven tries scored in the second half they at least notched up three. OEs had certainly been the bigger satsumas on the day though and CS’s bête noire, aptly Tom White, had notched up another 19 points with eight successful kicks out of nine!
