The Stags started this game as they had left off last week in their fine win against East Grinstead. They were 6-8 to the good at half time courtesy of a Scott Hadden penalty and a fine try by winger Jon Webber who had rounded his man on the outside. They had played a sensible territorially based game and had two final passes not gone astray would have enjoyed the even healthier half time lead that their efforts deserved. The large Dorking crowd was unusually quiet.
Then the Stags' world imploded. Two quick 7 point scores were conceded, one vocal appeal to the referee after another found favour and if heads initially only went down imperceptibly the damage to morale seemed nonetheless palpable. Soon it had become a vicious circle as possession dried up more and more with the line-out in particular a shambles. The Dorking spectators were now enjoying themselves and in full voice.
When it seemed things could hardly get worse injuries struck resulting in a prop and a centre (PJ!) finishing the game in the back row.
In all seven tries and 47 unanswered points were conceded in the second half! It had been a horror story for the Stags but Dorking did play some very good rugby and long before the finish looked like the top of the table side that they are.
