Weekend Update latest – Saturday 8th March 2025
Camberley RFC 31 – CS Stags 1863 31: On a fantastically warm, bright, sunny day, the Stags travelled down to Camberley RFC for a Regional 1, South Central fixture. It was meant to be a double header, but Camberley 2’s conceded the match to our Staghound 2’s on the Friday, so it was just a first team fixture. It was good to talk to Gwynn Evans at lunch, one of our own former Civil Service players who left for Camberley and became their President, as well as to catch up with Stewart Davies, (Morgan’s father), who is the current Co-Chairman at Camberley.
The Stags took an early 0-5 lead, but were eventually 24-12 down to the home team. The usual cracking Stags defence, and some great linking end-to-end play saw our boys roar back second half into 24-31 lead. With seconds to go, Camberley scored in the corner, and converted from the touchline for a fitting 31-31 draw. It was a fair result, five tries apiece, and the spectators were witness to some great all round rugby. Points shared, meaning Stags stay 3rd in the table, just 3 points in front of Camberley, who have a game in hand. Our Staghounds 2’s remain top of London Counties and South Coast Premiership, with just two matches remaining to play. It’s all building up to be an exciting finale to the season for both teams – well done boys! (It’s a break week Saturday 15th March 2025, with no matches for either team).
Vets Day – Saturday 22nd March 2025. Our last home match against Maidenhead RFC has been well documented as a “Vets Day” on the club social media, newsletters, and websites since last December. A number of you former players and other guests have already contacted Nick Alway and myself to inform us of your availability to partake in the for pre-match lunch, so thank you. However, please keep those confirmations of attendance coming, preferably by end of this coming weekend, 16th March, as we need to finalise catering with Kings House School Sports Ground by then. Final format, times, cost and payment shall be confirmed on the club media websites and newsletter to email recipients next few days, so please get your name in quick. We are anticipating a brilliant day catching up with old friends, and celebrating what has been a fantastic season on the pitch for CS Stags – don’t miss out!
Photos and league table attached: Enjoy the photos (on Facebook and LinkedIn only) of the 1st XV game against Camberley last weekend. There’s even one of the team in the local Weatherspoon’s near Camberley station, in their designated “shit shirt” garb for the evening! The league tables are also attached, but unfortunately the Staghounds table has not been updated yet on England Rugby to include this weekend’s results.
