CS Stags 1863 – 3rd place – Regional 1 South Central: Many congratulations to the Stags for ending their season on a high on Saturday, sealing 3rd spot in the final league table, and crowning what has been a fantastic 2024/25 season for the club! Travelling across London to Dulwich to play a fast and well drilled Old Alleynians RFC side, the boys stuck to their guns with grit to emerge 21-27 winners, claiming the full five points with a 3-5 bonus try count. Enjoying the spring sunshine, the travelling contingent were treated to an exciting game, with the Stags displaying their tell-tale stoic defence, and punishing the opposition when nearing and smelling their try line. Going into half time 14-12 down, the Stags turned on the afterburners second half to run in three more tries and claim the victory. Extremely well done to the whole team and squad this season, Head Coach Oli Bryant and his coaching squad of Mike Ozdilli, Jake Farnworth, and Jay Henderson, and to physios Morgan Beale and Dylan Hopwood-Barsacq.
Final Score: Old Alleynians RFC 21 – CS Stags 1863 27 - (3 tries to 5) Tries: Luke Risman, Ted Wainwright, Kain Rix, Alex jones, Luke Trigg. Conversions: John Hargreaves (x1)
Photos and league table attached: Enjoy the photos (on Facebook and LinkedIn only) of the game, the travelling entourage, presentation of club plaque by club veteran Roy Stephens (who played his first game for Civil Service against Old Alleynians in 1970), post-match celebrations (including the squad gathered at The Crossing pub in Barnes on Sunday morning for end of season “High Court Trials”), and the final Regional 1 South Central league table. Also attached are some stats from the league, that prove what a great run the CS Stags 1st XV has had this season. Congratulations to London Welsh RFC who won the league in pretty emphatic fashion, losing just one game.
The coming weeks: The league season may be over, and we are not entered in the Papa Johns Cup competition this year, but our CS Stags 7’s team shall be defending the title they won at the Middlesex Club Sevens last year. This year the date and venue - Saturday 17th May 2025, at Wasps FC (Rugby Union), Twyford Avenue Sports Ground, Twyford Avenue, Acton, Greater London, W3 9QA. I shall post a final season Newsletter when the London Counties and South Coast Premiership league table has been updated on England Rugby. In the meantime, thanks for all your support for the club this past season, and enjoy a wonderful summer.
