Hard fought loss to Jersey for 1st XV, and another win for Staghounds

The 1st XV travelled to Jersey RFC on Saturday 11th January, where they went down fighting every inch of (just about the only unfrozen) turf, losing 28-13 to a strong, well drilled, Jersey side, with a huge crowd behind them. Arriving straight from the airport, the score was 14-6 at half time, and the usual dogged defence had the home team baffled in the first half. Stags came out on the attack in the second half, but numerous yellow cards (for both sides) spoilt the flow of the game slightly, before Jersey triumphed 4 tries to 1. It was a joy to see the travelling support from the UK, friends, and family, plus some old ‘Service’ personnel, and the squad stayed Saturday night on the island to make the most of this unusual distant travelling fixture, and enjoy some team bonding. All credit to Jersey for hosting this fixture, and their generous hospitality, organisation, and support shown to us.
The Staghounds 2nd XV keeps marching on relentless though! A triumphant 17-8 victory against Battersea Ironsides, on a bitterly cold (below freezing) Friday night on the 3G pitch at Kings House, 3 tries to 1. Well done boys, and keep it going!
This coming week – Saturday 18th January 2025. The Staghounds play Belsize Park 2’s at home, Dukes Meadows. The 1st XV travel away to Bracknell RFC, Lily Hl Pk, Lily Hl Dr, Bracknell RG12 2UG, for their Regional 1 South Central league fixture. More details and kick off times to follow – all travelling support most welcome.
